William Troost-Ekong of Nigeria was named the AFCON Tournament’s Best Player

Nigerian footballer,  William Troost-Ekong has been named the best player for the just-ended AFCON tournament.

The Nigerian defender was honored as the best player due to his great performance and leadership skills throughout their matches in the AFCON.

Even though Nigeria lost to Ivory Coast in the final match, becoming the second in the AFCON tournament, the great performance by their captain, William Troost-Ekong was recognized which made him honored as the best player.

In the 38 minutes of the final match against Ivory Coast, Nigeria’s defender and captain, William Troost-Ekong, scored with a header to a corner making Nigeria lead with a goal.

Meanwhile, the Ivory Coast won the 34th African Cup of Nations after their win against Nigeria in the final match which came off on 11th February, 2024.

La Côte d’Ivoire Wins 34th Edition of AFCON

La Côte d’Ivoire has moved from zero to hero as they have emerged as the winners in the just-ended 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations tournament after their win against Nigeria in the final match.

La Côte d’Ivoire played the final match with Nigeria on 11th February 2024 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan .

In the 38 minutes, Nigeria’s defender and captain, William Troost-Ekong, scored with a header to a corner making Nigeria lead with a goal.

Franck Kessie equalized in the 62nd minute for Ivory Coast making the scores 1 for Nigeria and 1 for La Côte d’Ivoire.

Sebastien Haller scored the winning goal nine minutes from the end as host Ivory Coast came from behind to claim a third Africa Cup of Nations title with a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the final.

Taking to their official social media handles, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that La Côte d’Ivoire has won the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations.

They posted a group picture of the team of La Côte d’Ivoire and captioned it “Côte d’Ivoire are crowned African Champions for the third time in their history!”
