It Is Stupid to Punish Students for Speaking Twi – Kweku Darlington

Ghanaian musician, Kweku Darlington has said that in his opinion, there is no sense in beating students who speak their mother tongue, vernacular in schools.

Kweku Darlington made this statement in a new song he released, after which he went to his official Twitter page to quizzed his staunch followers their thoughts on the topic on board.

The musician has said that it is very unwise for teachers who claim they have sense to beat students who speak Twi or their mother tongue in schools.

He noted that in schools in the contemporary Ghanaian society, a student would speak their mother tongue and teachers would make a class prefect or any other person assigned to write their names and attach to their names Double Punishment (DP) if they speak again after their name has been written.

He noted in his song that the thought of Ghanaians that he who can speak English has a better future is a sheer stupidity and must be swept under the canopy.

“Here, if you are able to speak English very well they will say that you have a bright future. Speak English, it has been written and pasted on the walls of every school. We claim we have sense but we use that same sense to beat a child who speaks vernacular”, the rapper and singer said in his newly- released song.

The rapper after the release of his new song took to Twitter to question “Is it not nonsense to punish students for speaking their mother tongue?”

He added that Ghanaians are human beings and it is high time we learnt lessons and put a stop to this “nonsense”

“Bibi nii nso y3 nipa ooo hmmm”, he added.

He has therefore called on the leaders of Ghana to “Walk the Talk” and make sure that the right things are done as far as mother tongue and vernacular speaking in schools is concerned.
