DJ Candy recounts unjust treatment at the prominent Accra-based station

Date:

Renowned DJ, Alex Kwaku Amoah known popularly as DJ Candy Man revealed his time at Asaase Radio in Accra as one of his worst experiences in the radio industry.

The DJ, who resigned on February 28, 2023, pointed to persistent disrespect and a power play within the station, particularly involving Nana Otu Gyandoh, the Programs Manager.

DJ Candy Man disclosed that despite what appeared to be a cordial relationship with Gyandoh, he experienced unfair treatment, including the abrupt reassignment of his airtime without prior notice.

The DJ, who primarily operated from Studio B, was shocked to discover his airtime had been given to another colleague, DJ Raennie, without any communication.

Expressing his disappointment, Candy Man asserted, “I was disrespected in a very bad manner. Not necessarily by management; it was an individual. I shouldn’t be saying this, but I will say it because it hurts me.”

Further elaborating on the incident, Candy Man explained, “I never knew my airtime had been taken away from me and someone else had been assigned. I went to the studio playing songs only to find out I was not on air. I had been taken off, and what was being played at Studio A by this new person was what was being transmitted.”

The DJ emphasized that the lack of communication and subsequent discovery left him hurt and demoralized, contributing to his decision to resign from Asaase Radio.

He also highlighted a conversation with another staff member, Blaq Boy, who revealed Gyandoh’s intention to remove Candy Man from on-air duties.

Reflecting on his departure, Candy Man asserted, “He wanted to show how powerful he was, that he could bring you down. This issue still hurts me.”

Despite officially resigning in February 2023, Candy Man noted that even after his departure, Gyandoh continued to hold grudges, recalling an instance when the Programs Manager ignored him during a visit.

With an extensive radio background, including stints at prominent stations like Fox FM, Hello FM, and Atinka FM, DJ Candy Man has moved on from the radio business but continues to pursue his passion as a DJ, entertaining audiences at various events.
