I stopped my music career to focus on other aspects of my life – Becca

Acclaimed Afropop artist Rebecca Akosua Acheampomaa Acheampong known popularly as Becca clarified misconceptions surrounding her absence from music, emphasizing that her break was a premeditated decision unrelated to marriage.

Contrary to speculations, Becca asserts, “It was not about marriage. That’s the mistake people are making. It just coincided, sort of because it was a decision I’d already made, that I wanted to take some time.”

The singer had contemplated the break even before tying the knot with Nigerian businessman Tobi Sanni-Daniel in 2018, having actively pursued her music career for almost eleven years.

Explaining her motive, Becca expressed a desire to diversify her income streams beyond music, which had been her primary source for over a decade.

“I wanted to get into real estate because that’s where I wanted to make money elsewhere. I wanted to concentrate on my spa, which is one of the biggest spas in Ghana right now. I wanted to do other things,” she elaborates.

Dismissing claims that marriage and motherhood dictated her hiatus, Becca emphasized, “And then, of course, children come in, and then you’re like, okay, and then you have your husband. But that wasn’t the focus. I wanted to explore other avenues as well.”

Reassuring her fans, Becca affirms her enduring love for music, asserting, “Music is always going to be my first. I can’t run away from that, no matter what.”

The renowned artist, known for hits like “You Lied to Me,” “I’m Alive,” “African Woman,” and “Yes I Do,” assured her fans that she will continue to contribute to the music industry.

Becca, who gained fame after participating in the second season of TV3’s Mentor, has released three studio albums and collaborated with notable artists, including Hugh Masekela, MI Abaga, 2face Idibia, and Shatta Wale.
