“It’s time to say thank you” – Afua Asantewaa prepares to embark on an appreciation tour

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, who made headlines for her Guinness World Record attempt for the longest singing marathon, has revealed plans for a ‘Thank You Tour’ to express appreciation to her supporters.

Announcing the news via her Twitter account on March 19, Afua Asantewaa shared her intention to embark on a tour to personally thank her fans in Canada.

“I have a tall list of countries I am so grateful to for their immense support for me during my GWR record attempt. It’s time to say thank you, beginning with all Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians in Toronto, Canada,” she posted.

In December 2023, she performed a marathon singing session lasting 126 hours and 52 minutes at Akwaaba Village in Accra, aiming to surpass the existing world record of 105 hours set by Sunil Waghmare in 2012.

Despite her valiant effort, last month, Guinness World Records declared Afua’s attempt to break the current record unsuccessful, acknowledging her endeavor in December 2023.

On December 29, 2023, she concluded her singing marathon after reaching 126 hours and 52 minutes, with the goal of surpassing the existing record set by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in 2012.

However, in February 2024, the Guinness World Records clarified that Afua Asantewaa’s attempt was unsuccessful due to “break timings not being met,” a standard rule applied to all of their longest marathon records.
