Robert Klah, Head of Communications and Public Events for Charterhouse, has clarified why Kojo Blak’s song Excellent was excluded from this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

His explanation came in response to concerns raised by Kelvyn Boy, who was featured on the track, during an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty.

According to Robert Klah, Excellent did not qualify because it was released towards the end of the eligibility calendar (January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024). He noted that the song did not gain enough traction within the period to compete with other nominated songs.

“If you release a song and we have a deadline for the year under review, and after two weeks it hasn’t garnered enough airplay, publicity, or streams, it means other songs in that category will have an advantage over it,” he explained.

He further elaborated: “By December 31, how did it perform compared to other songs in the same category? That’s the key consideration.”

However, Robert acknowledged the song’s growing popularity in 2025, stating, “If you ask anybody about Excellent today, they would say it’s a big song. Nobody is arguing about that. But was it as big as it was on December 31?”

He emphasized that the selection process is based on timing and performance metrics, which ultimately affected the song’s eligibility.

Kojo Blak’s Excellent may be a hit now, but its late release meant it couldn’t compete effectively within the 2024 review period.
