A leading member of Movement For Change, Hopeson Adorye, has shared new information about the Air Med aircraft that recently landed at the Kotoka International Airport and stayed for several days.
Speaking in an interview on UTV on Thursday, April 10, 2024, Mr. Adorye dismissed rumours that the aircraft was carrying cocaine. He has revealed what was really inside the aircraft.
According to him, the aircraft contained items that were meant for another country and not for Ghana. He explained that such aircraft usually pass through Ghana only for maintenance or refueling and do not pose any threat to the country.
He said that there was no way the plane could have contained illegal drugs without being detected. “Every aircraft that lands at Kotoka goes through several strict checks by security agencies,” he said. “Officials from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), National Security, Customs, and other state agencies inspect every single item on board.”
Mr. Adorye added that after the initial checks, all cargo and items are scanned thoroughly. He noted that if there had been any cocaine on board, the security systems at the airport would have discovered it within hours of the plane’s arrival.
He stressed that people should stop spreading lies about the aircraft and causing unnecessary fear and confusion. “It was just here for maintenance and maybe refueling,” he said.
This statement from Hopeson Adorye comes at a time when Ghanaians are divided over claims made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, that two suspicious aircraft may have been involved in drug trafficking.
President Mahama has ordered a full investigation into the matter, but Hopeson Adorye believes the truth is already clear that the aircraft had nothing to do with cocaine.
