Popular Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata has finally met the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The special meeting took place on Friday, 9th May 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Kofi Kinaata, who is well-known for his inspiring and educative songs, received a warm welcome from the Asantehene. In a touching moment, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II placed a beautiful medal on Kinaata’s neck to honour him. This act showed how much the Asante King appreciates Kofi Kinaata’s contribution to society, especially in promoting discipline, good morals, and education through music.
It could be recalled that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II mentioned Kofi Kinaata’s name in one of his speeches. This shows the kind of love he has for the musician.
The event happened during a courtesy visit by the Governing Board of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to the Manhyia Palace. The board was led by its Chairman, Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu.
The Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, was part of the team, along with other key board members such as Professor Leonard Derkyi-Kwarteng, Professor Abdul Samed Muntaka, and Professor Samuel Asare-Nkansah.
Also present were Dr. Daniel Opoku and Professor Eric Kwabena Kyeh Abavare, who represented the teaching staff of the university. The student body was represented by Mr. Francis Nana Kane from the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and Mr. Gabriel Alexander Kpevu from the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG).
Other important personalities in the delegation included Dr. Herman Yobo Addae, representing the alumni, Mr. Suleimana Zachariah Yeboah from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), and Professor Frimpong Kaakyireduku from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). The University Registrar, Mr. A. K. Boateng, was also part of the group.
