Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, a second-year student at Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, has safely arrived in the United Kingdom for emergency eye surgery. Suzzy was accidentally shot in the eye by a classmate during an unfortunate incident at school.
She landed in the UK on Saturday, May 10, 2025, and was accompanied by her brother, who is acting as her caregiver. Also traveling with them was Rafik Mahama, the special aide to businessman Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, who is fully covering the cost of her travel, medical treatment, and accommodation.
Doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and Agarwal Eye Hospital in Accra confirmed that Suzzy had suffered serious damage to her eye. They recommended that she be flown abroad for urgent specialist treatment to save her vision.
Thanks to the quick intervention of Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, all financial burdens related to the trip and surgery have been taken off the shoulders of Suzzy’s family. The kind support from Mr. Mahama has made it possible for Suzzy to access the medical care she urgently needs.
Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, also played an important role in making the journey possible. He helped fast-track the visa process and directed Ghana’s High Commission in the UK to give Suzzy special support during her stay. The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson, also supported the visa efforts.
Hon. Ablakwa confirmed the successful visa and travel process through a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Suzzy is expected to undergo surgery in the UK in the next few days. Her family, school, and supporters across Ghana are praying for a successful operation and full recovery.
