In 2025, the Government of Ghana implemented a 10% increase in the Base Pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), effective from January 1 to December 31, 2025.
This adjustment, agreed upon by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Finance, and organized labour, aims to enhance the remuneration of public sector workers, including teachers .
Teacher salaries under the Ghana Education Service (GES) vary based on rank and qualifications. For instance, newly recruited diploma holders at the Senior Superintendent II level receive a gross monthly salary of approximately GH¢2,732.01, with a net salary of around GH¢2,239.96. Degree holders entering at the Principal Superintendent level earn a gross monthly salary of about GH¢3,459.20, translating to a net salary of approximately GH¢2,811.20 .
The salary structure progresses with promotions. An Assistant Director I, for example, has a gross monthly salary of GH¢4,530.13 and a net salary of GH¢3,602.11. At the top of the hierarchy, the Director-General of GES earns a gross monthly salary of GH¢10,523.46, with a net salary of GH¢7,882.13 .
