Pressure is mounting on Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) and National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to step down following a viral video involving Evangelist Mama Pat, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
An NDC communications team member, whose name is Lawrence Kojo-Mensah, has openly called for Gyamfi’s resignation, stating that his actions have brought disgrace to the party and handed their political opponents, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), unnecessary ammunition to attack the NDC.
“Sad… sad… sad! Sammy Gyamfi must resign! Leave GOLDBOD and let us have some peace!” the team member said in a strongly worded statement circulating on social media.
The call for resignation comes after a video surfaced showing Sammy Gyamfi handing over U.S. dollar notes, allegedly $1,000 to Nana Agradaa, who later claimed it was given to her for fuel. The video quickly went viral and sparked criticism from both political opponents and some supporters of the NDC.
According to the party communicator, Sammy Gyamfi’s behavior contradicts the values of transparency and discipline the NDC seeks to uphold, especially now that former President John Dramani Mahama is working hard to restore hope and trust in governance.
“John Dramani Mahama is doing his best for Ghana. Even he would not do what you’ve done, though he is more generous than anyone in the party,” the member added.
The statement also described Gyamfi’s conduct as “disgraceful” and an embarrassment to the NDC. “You have embarrassed all of us. This is so disgraceful! Step down now,” the post concluded with a sad emoji, expressing frustration and disappointment.
While Sammy Gyamfi has clarified that the money was not party funds and that the video is being used maliciously to damage his image, critics within and outside the party believe the incident undermines the NDC’s credibility as it prepares for the 2024 general elections..
