According to a report by Oyerepa FM, a serious accident happened early Monday morning, May 12, 2025, on the Accra-Kumasi Highway near Akyem Asafo. The crash led to the death of four people and left three others badly injured.
According to reports, the accident involved three trucks – two cargo trucks and a tipper truck – all traveling towards Accra. An eyewitness, Mr. Tweneboah Koduah, said that one of the cargo trucks, which was loaded with cocoa, had a mechanical problem and broke down in the middle of the road.
Unfortunately, another cargo truck coming from behind could not stop in time and crashed into the stationary vehicle. Just a few minutes later, a third truck, believed to be carrying market women, also smashed into the wrecked trucks, making the situation worse.
The accident has caused heavy traffic on the highway. Drivers heading to Accra from Kumasi have been advised to use the Kibi road, while those traveling from Accra to Kumasi are encouraged to go through Apedwa to avoid the traffic.
Police officers, emergency workers, and medical teams arrived quickly at the scene. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical care. Authorities are now working to remove the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow on the highway.
This accident has once again raised concerns about safety on Ghana’s major roads. Mechanical faults, speeding, and poor visibility are common causes of such tragic incidents.
Road users are being reminded to check their vehicles regularly and drive carefully at all times. Officials are also calling for better enforcement of road safety rules to help prevent more accidents like this in the future.
As investigations continue, the families of the victims are being supported, and the entire nation mourns this sad loss.
