The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has apprehended Yaw Danso, an accountant with the National Service Authority (NSA), for his alleged involvement in the high-profile ghost names payroll scandal.
Danso, who was responsible for managing payments, is suspected of playing a key role in the fraudulent operation.
His arrest comes after that of Kwaku Ohene Gyan, the former Deputy Director of Operations at the NSA, who was detained by authorities on February 22, 2025.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are actively searching for Gifty Oware-Mensah, a former Deputy Executive Director of the NSA, who is reportedly on the run as the investigation intensifies.
According to reports from 3news, the payroll fraud has led to significant financial losses for the government, with several senior officials now under scrutiny for their possible involvement.
Danso’s detention is part of a larger government-led anti-corruption effort, which recently also saw the arrest of Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Chair of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, in connection with the controversial \$2 million Sky Train project.
Currently held at the NIB’s headquarters, Danso is being interrogated as investigators attempt to determine the full scope of the payroll scam and identify others connected to the network of corruption within the NSA.
