The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is asking President John Mahama to immediately suspend Sammy Gyamfi from his role as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). The NPP believes this suspension is necessary so investigations can be carried out into Sammy Gyamfi’s recent actions.
This follows a video that went viral on Saturday, May 10, 2025, showing Mr. Gyamfi giving bundles of U.S. dollars to evangelist Nana Agradaa while sitting in his Range Rover. The video has caused public concern, and the NPP says the matter must be taken seriously.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, May 13, the NPP’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, said the president must act now to show he supports proper leadership and accountability.
He said, “We ask the President to suspend Mr. Sammy Gyamfi right away so that state investigators can look into the matter without any interference.”
Mr. Boakye compared this situation to what happened with former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah. He reminded Ghanaians that Madam Dapaah stepped down after it was reported that large sums of money had been stolen from her home. Even though she had worked in government for over 40 years and came from a respected family, she still stepped aside to allow investigations.
Under President Akufo-Addo, Madam Dapaah was investigated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), and the process took several months.
Boakye said similar actions should be taken now by President Mahama to show fairness and build public trust. The NPP says transparency and good leadership should not depend on which political party is in power.
