The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, has revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) currently holds 81 parliamentary seats, not 88 as some sources have claimed. He made this revelation as reported by GhOne TV on Tuesday, 13th May, 2025.
This statement comes after the 2024 general elections, which have increased the total number of parliamentary seats in Ghana to 276. Dr. Tanko-Computer explained that the NDC has thoroughly reviewed the results from all the constituencies and discovered that the NPP’s true number of seats is 81. The NDC, on the other hand, has secured 137 seats, while the remaining seats are held by independent candidates and smaller parties.
According to the NDC, the figures being pushed by the NPP are misleading and may be aimed at creating a false impression of strength in Parliament. The party believes that the NPP is attempting to confuse the public by inflating its parliamentary numbers, even though their performance in the 2024 elections declined significantly compared to previous years.
Dr. Tanko-Computer emphasized the importance of presenting accurate data to the public to maintain transparency and trust in the electoral system. He urged Ghanaians to rely on verified information instead of political propaganda.
With the final results pointing to a clear shift in parliamentary power, the NDC is confident in its position and is ready to take on its responsibilities both in government and in the legislature. Currently, Ablekuma North constituency is the only constitency in the country with no sitting MP as the EC is yet to declare the results.
