President John Mahama has finally responded to the recent controversy involving Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board.
This comes after a video went viral showing Sammy Gyamfi giving dollar notes to popular evangelist Nana Agradaa. Many people, including members of the public, were unhappy with his actions and demanded that he be punished for violating the Code of Conduct for public officials.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, the President’s spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, explained that Mr. Gyamfi had already apologized for his actions and met with the Chief of Staff to explain himself. At the time of the incident, President Mahama was outside the country. However, after being briefed, the President agreed that Mr. Gyamfi’s public apology showed that he regretted his actions.
Kwakye Ofosu stated clearly that the President and the Chief of Staff have cautioned Sammy Gyamfi, and no further punishment will be given. According to him, the apology and the caution are in line with the Code of Conduct, which allows public officials to apologize publicly when they make a mistake. He added that the President expects all his appointees to behave in ways that meet public expectations.
Sammy Gyamfi has also promised that he will not repeat such behavior again. He has committed to being more responsible in his role as a public servant. The Presidency believes that because he has shown remorse and taken responsibility, there is no need for further action.
The government emphasized that it takes the concerns of Ghanaians seriously and will continue to promote good leadership. It promised to keep holding public officials to high standards so they can serve the people of Ghana better.
