Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Presidential Advisor and special aide to President John Dramani Mahama, has confirmed that the president is taking real action to bring back Ghana’s national airline.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, 14th May, 2025, she shared that President Mahama has officially launched a 10-member Task Force. Their job is to work on bringing back a national carrier for Ghana, something he promised during the 2024 election campaign.
Since the collapse of Ghana’s previous national airline, different governments have tried to revive the aviation sector but have not been successful. Joyce Bawah noted that this issue has come up many times over the years, but this time, President Mahama is serious about making it happen.
The decision has started many discussions among Ghanaians. Some people believe the government should fully own and operate the airline. Others suggest a partnership between the government and a private company. This way, the airline can carry Ghana’s identity without the government managing everything alone.
Joyce Bawah believes that Ghana does need a national airline. She explained that Ghana’s location in West Africa makes it a perfect place for air travel, trade, tourism, and investment. But without a strong national airline, the country is missing out on many opportunities.
She also mentioned that having a national airline will make travel easier and cheaper for Ghanaians and foreigners. It will also bring many benefits such as creating jobs, improving skills, and helping industries like tourism and hospitality.
Most importantly, Joyce said that a national airline would be a sign of national pride and growth. With proper planning, strong leadership, and good management, Ghana can build an airline that works well and helps the country grow.
