According to a report by Connect FM on Thursday, 15th May, 2025, a 9-year-old girl and two others, including a pregnant woman, are in critical condition after a large tree fell on them at Buduburam in the Central Region of Ghana.
The sad incident happened on Wednesday afternoon, May 15, 2025, when the three victims were resting under a Neem tree to escape the hot sun. According to eyewitnesses, the weather had become very windy, and suddenly, the huge tree came crashing down on them without warning.
The three victims were quickly rushed to the St. Gregory Catholic Hospital for emergency treatment. Health officials at the hospital have confirmed that the victims are in very critical condition and are receiving urgent medical care. Doctors are doing their best to save their lives.
Residents of the area were shocked and saddened by the incident. Many said the tree looked old and weak and should have been cut down long ago. Some people believe that the strong winds and weak roots of the tree caused it to fall.
A resident who witnessed the incident told Connect FM that the victims had no idea the tree was about to fall. “They were just sitting under it, trying to get some shade from the sun. All of a sudden, the tree fell and trapped them,” he said.
The assembly member for the area has called on authorities to inspect old trees in public spaces to prevent such unfortunate accidents in the future. He added that the lives of people must be protected and that safety measures must be taken seriously.
Meanwhile, families of the victims have gathered at the hospital, praying and hoping for their speedy recovery.
