The Presidency has announced that no further disciplinary action will be taken against Sammy Gyamfi following his public apology over a controversial video that recently made rounds online. The statement was made by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during a press conference at Jubilee House on Tuesday.
Mr. Ofosu confirmed that the matter has been resolved and is now considered closed.
The video, which went viral on May 11, shows Mr. Gyamfi—who serves as the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board and the Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)—offering a bundle of U.S. dollars to Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, also known as Nana Agradaa, during a church event. The footage sparked widespread public debate, with some calling for sanctions and others viewing the act as a personal show of appreciation.
Addressing journalists, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu revealed that Mr. Gyamfi was summoned to the Presidency to clarify the situation to the Chief of Staff. Although President Mahama was out of the country at the time, he was later fully briefed.
According to Mr. Ofosu, Mr. Gyamfi’s prompt response to public criticism and his formal apology were deemed sufficient in resolving the issue.
“In accordance with the President’s Code of Conduct, a public apology is considered an acceptable form of redress,” said Mr. Kwakye Ofosu. “Mr. Gyamfi apologized quickly and also received an official caution from the Chief of Staff.”
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ethical leadership while emphasizing the importance of measured and fair responses. Mr. Gyamfi has pledged to exercise better judgment going forward and uphold behavior that aligns with public expectations.
