Akyem Achiase, Ghana – Ghanaian-born Spanish footballer Inaki Williams has officially ventured into the hospitality industry with the launch of a multi-million dollar five-star hotel in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The luxury establishment, named the San Mames Hotel, is located in Akyem Achiase, the hometown of the Williams family.
The hotel, named after the iconic San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain—home of Athletic Bilbao where Inaki plays—was inaugurated in early January 2024. Although the footballer could not attend the grand opening due to his commitments with the Ghana national team during the Africa Cup of Nations, the event was graced by local chiefs, dignitaries, and family members.
The San Mames Hotel offers world-class amenities including a rooftop bar, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and elegantly furnished rooms equipped with modern conveniences. According to the hotel’s management, the goal is to attract both local and international guests seeking high-end hospitality in a serene environment.
“This hotel is not just a business venture. It’s a way for Inaki to give back to his roots and support local development,” said Mr. Donkor, the hotel’s general manager. “We are creating employment opportunities and offering a new standard of hospitality in this region.”
The project is expected to provide jobs for dozens of locals and boost tourism and business activities in the Eastern Region. Residents and traditional leaders have praised Williams for choosing to invest in his hometown.
Inaki Williams and his brother, Nico, trace their ancestry to the Akyem area. Their parents’ journey from Ghana to Europe has been well-documented, with their father famously crossing the Sahara Desert on foot in search of a better future.
With this latest move, Inaki Williams joins a growing list of international athletes using their success to support community development. The San Mames Hotel stands as a symbol of resilience, ambition, and a strong connection to heritage.
