According to pollster Mussa Dankwah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) firm grasp on the Ashanti Region is showing signs of decline. In a Facebook post reflecting on data from the April 2025 poll, he stated clearly: “NPP is still winning in Ashanti, but it’s a subpar performance.”
The Ashanti Region has traditionally served as the NPP’s political bedrock, but Dankwah notes that their lead has shrunk compared to previous elections. “It’s a victory, yes—but not the commanding one that typically secures their national success,” he explained.
The poll, which surveyed all sixteen of Ghana’s regions, shows the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leading in every region except Ashanti and North East.
In addition, Dankwah highlighted that the Eastern Region is currently too close to call, with both parties locked in a statistical draw—echoing the tightly contested nature of recent elections.
These developments may signal trouble for the NPP, especially as their traditional advantage appears to be diminishing. Political observers see this as a potential shift ahead of the 2028 elections.
“These figures tell a story,” Dankwah emphasized. “If the NPP can’t shore up support in its core areas, the road to electoral victory in 2028 will be far more difficult.”
