President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, will return to the country before the end of next week.
He made this known on Friday, May 16, 2025, while addressing a crowd during a durbar at the Old Ghanata Astroturf in Dodowa as part of his ‘Thank You Tour’.
The Vice President has been in the United Kingdom for medical care after falling sick briefly. President Mahama confirmed that she has now fully recovered and is ready to resume her official duties soon.
“I bring you greetings from Her Excellency the Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang,” President Mahama said. “I spoke to her on the morning of Thursday, May 15, and I’m happy to let you know that she will be back in Ghana before next week ends. By God’s grace, she is feeling strong again and is ready to return to work.”
Earlier, on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 11), President Mahama visited Prof. Opoku-Agyemang in the UK. He shared a photo of the visit on his Facebook page, along with a message to celebrate her.
“A special Mother’s Day greeting to my Vice President, Jane Naana, whom I had the pleasure of visiting earlier this morning,” he wrote.
This announcement has brought joy to many Ghanaians who have been concerned about the Vice President’s health. With her return expected soon, the government team will be fully back in action.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang made history by becoming the first female Vice President of Ghana and also the first woman to chair the Armed Forces Council. Many people admire her leadership and commitment to the country.
