According to Ghanaweb report, Eugene Boakye Antwi, the former Member of Parliament for Subin, has expressed growing apprehension about human nature, triggered by some appointments made by President John Dramani Mahama in the current administration.
In an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Boakye Antwi lamented what he called the hypocrisy of certain individuals who previously claimed neutrality and openly criticised the former New Patriotic Party (NPP)-led government but have now been given key government positions.
“President Mahama’s recent appointments have made me more fearful of humans. Some of these people who strongly criticised the NPP government are now part of the ruling government,” the ex-lawmaker said.
He further accused these appointees of acting out of personal interests rather than genuine concern for national welfare. Boakye Antwi cited the example of Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, a vocal critic during the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) controversy, who has since been appointed Board Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
“It was all about their interests. When the DDEP issue came up, Dr. Adu Anane Antwi spoke massively against it. But now he has received an appointment as the Board Chairman of SEC. These people touted themselves as neutrals criticising governance, but they had hidden agendas,” he criticized.
Boakye Antwi added that accepting such appointments compromises the integrity of those who once presented themselves as impartial critics. “If I were in their shoes, I would not have accepted the appointment because it damages one’s reputation. Their actions were driven by personal gain, not national interest,” he concluded.
This statement adds to ongoing debates about political loyalty and the motivations behind government appointments in Ghana’s current political landscape.
