Flooding is a big problem in Accra, especially during the rainy season. Many areas get flooded because of poor drainage systems, building on water paths, and many others.
Every year, people lose their homes, cars, and sometimes even their lives because of floods. But not every part of Accra suffers from this problem.
Some places are lucky to be on high land or have good drainage systems. These areas hardly experience any floods, even when it rains heavily. Below are ten places in Accra that are known for rarely flooding:
1. Dodowa
Dodowa is located on high land. Because of this, water flows away easily, and floods do not affect the area.
2. Aburi
Aburi is in the hills and is very high above sea level. This natural advantage keeps it safe from floods.
3. Oyibi
Oyibi is also located on high ground and is still developing, so there are not many buildings blocking water paths.
4. Adenta
Adenta is well planned and has a good drainage system. This helps rainwater to flow freely.
5. Ashaley Botwe
Some parts of Ashaley Botwe have proper drains and are located on slightly higher land, which prevents flooding.
6. North Legon
North Legon is a quiet residential area with well-constructed roads and drainage. It hardly gets flooded.
7. Haatso
Haatso is another area that is well planned and rarely experiences any flooding issues.
8. Kwabenya
Kwabenya sits on a hill, making it difficult for rainwater to stay. It flows away easily.
9. Pokuase
Even though some parts of Pokuase can flood, areas on the higher side rarely face this problem.
10. Oyarifa
Oyarifa is near the Aburi hills. Its good location and proper planning help protect it from floods.
