Veteran Ghanaian journalist and social commentator, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has called on President John Dramani Mahama and his government to be honest with the people of Ghana about the ongoing power crisis, popularly known as “dumsor.”
In a post shared on social media platform X on Tuesday, 20th May, 2025, Mr. Pratt expressed disappointment in how public officials are handling the current power outages. According to him, it is clear that Ghanaians are facing serious challenges with electricity supply, yet officials continue to deny the existence of dumsor.
“Why do public officials think that the public is incapable of appreciating reality?” he asked. “Everybody in Ghana knows that the country has been gripped by power outages for close to two years, and yet officials of the electricity power sector keep telling us that there is no ‘dumsor’.”
Kwesi Pratt believes that such behavior shows clear disrespect for the intelligence of the Ghanaian people. He added that government officials who continue to deny the existence of dumsor must be living in a different world, as the everyday experiences of Ghanaians show otherwise.
He stressed that it does not matter whether the problem started under the previous NPP government or has continued under the current NDC administration. The most important thing now is for leaders to stop making excuses and start providing real solutions.
“The people of Ghana know that they suffer power outages, and their demand is simple: just fix it,” Mr. Pratt stated.
His comments come at a time when many Ghanaians are complaining about frequent power cuts in their homes and workplaces, which affect businesses, students, and healthcare delivery.
Kwesi Pratt’s message is a strong call to government to speak the truth, stop denying the reality, and take immediate action to solve the power crisis.
