The people of Winneba and the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) are in shock after news broke that a well-known senior lecturer has been murdered. The Central Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the killing.
The police, in a statement released on May 22, 2025, said they have arrested a man named Joshua Karry Arthur. He is suspected to be involved in the murder of the UEW lecturer, who lived at Essuokyir in the Central Region.
According to the police, the lecturer was reported missing by his colleagues on May 21, 2025. His friends said they had tried calling him several times without getting any response. This led the police to visit his house.
When officers got to the house, they met the suspect, Joshua Karry Arthur, inside. He was immediately arrested. During the search of the area, the police found blood stains. These blood stains led them to a heap of sand located about 23 metres away from the house. When they removed the sand, they discovered a body buried beneath. Police believe the body is that of the missing lecturer.
The body was taken to the morgue for preservation and will be examined to find out more about the cause of death.
Police also retrieved several items from the suspect, which belong to the deceased lecturer. These include two Samsung phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a car key to a Toyota Fortuner.
At the moment, the suspect is in police custody and helping with investigations. He is expected to appear in court soon.
This sad incident has left the UEW community and the entire region in mourning, as many people knew and respected the lecturer. The police have promised to get to the bottom of the matter and ensure justice is served.
