In a recent interview, Solomon Owusu, a well-known public figure, expressed his readiness to criticize the Bank of Ghana if the country’s currency, the Cedi, begins to depreciate again. Owusu, who has long been vocal about economic matters, made it clear that he would not hesitate to hold the central bank accountable if the dollar’s value starts rising once more. He emphasized that he had no problem praising the current administration when the currency is stable, but he would not shy away from speaking out against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana if the situation worsens.
Owusu further discussed the broader economic policies of the previous administration, referencing comments made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer during the last election. According to Owusu, the NPP leader claimed that there was no policy from the government deserving of praise. He argued that this was a reflection of the lack of effective action during their time in power. Specifically, he pointed out that during the previous administration, the Cedi experienced a severe depreciation, with the dollar reaching an alarming exchange rate of GH₵17.
Owusu also took issue with the former government’s handling of the economy, highlighting the contradictions in their approach. He criticized the previous government’s economic management, questioning how an IT expert, who was part of the administration, failed to address such pressing issues. For Owusu, the failure to prevent the Cedi’s decline was unfair to the people of Ghana, underscoring the need for more responsible leadership in the country.
The interview, shared by TV3 Ghana on Instagram on May 21, 2025, has sparked strong reactions from the public, many of whom are expressing concern about the ongoing economic challenges and the role of the Bank of Ghana in resolving them.
