The Bank of Ghana has released the official exchange rates for major foreign currencies for Thursday, 22nd May 2025. These rates help guide commercial banks and the public when exchanging money between the Ghanaian cedi and other major international currencies such as the US dollar, the British pound, and the euro.
According to the Bank of Ghana, the exchange rate for the US dollar on Thursday is as follows: the buying rate is GH¢11.8441 while the selling rate is GH¢11.8559. This means that if someone wants to sell a US dollar to the bank, they will receive GH¢11.8441 per dollar. On the other hand, anyone who wants to buy a US dollar from the bank will pay GH¢11.8559 for each dollar.
For the British pound (GBP), the buying rate is GH¢15.8320 and the selling rate is GH¢15.8490. This rate shows that it is more expensive to trade in pounds than in dollars or euros. People dealing with businesses or relatives in the UK will use these figures to calculate how much money they will get or pay when exchanging currencies.
The euro (EUR) also has its rates for the day. The buying rate is GH¢13.3311 and the selling rate is GH¢13.3432. These rates apply to people doing business with European countries or receiving money from there.
The Bank of Ghana explained that these rates are based on the average interbank exchange rates used by commercial banks at the close of business on Wednesday, 21st May 2025. Interbank rates are the rates banks use when trading among themselves, and they form the basis for what the public sees each day.
These daily updates from the Bank of Ghana are important for traders, travelers, and businesses that need to exchange money regularly. The Bank advises the public to always check the daily rates before doing any currency exchange to avoid losses.
