Ghanaian music lovers are mourning the death of legendary Highlife singer, Dada KD, whose real name was Nana Kwaku Duah.
In an interview on Adom FM on Saturday, 17th May, 2025, Dada KD’s manager revealed what Dada KD said before he died.
The manager was asked whether the late musician suffered any sickness, King Pee noted that Dada KD complained of mild malaria symptoms. He was the rushed to three hospitals but to no avail. Dada KD complained so malaria symptoms. This got worse and sadly passed away..
Also, according to Zionfelix, who had his information from Nana Romeo, who happens to be a journalist, confirmed that Dada KD’s manager had gone to his home only to find the musician struggling to speak. Alarmed, they rushed him to the Gbawe Government Hospital, but after a few hours under medical care, doctors pronounced him dead.
What makes the situation even more heartbreaking, according to Nana Romeo, is that Dada KD showed no signs of illness prior to his sudden collapse. “He wasn’t sick,” Romeo said, “which is why we are all so shocked.
The popular radio presenter did, however, note that the singer had recently only been voicing his frustrations over the financial hardships he faced and the poor royalty system in the Ghanaian music industry
The show was expected to feature other popular musicians like Obrafour, Slim Buster, and Kojo Blakk.
Fans and fellow musicians are eagerly waiting to know what led to the sudden death of the well-known singer.
Dada KD was famous for his unique voice and deep emotional songs. His music touched the hearts of many Ghanaians and fans beyond. He became a household name with hit songs such as Tekyere Ma, Honey Love, Fatia Fata Nkrumah, Ene Menye, and Wosuro A Wondi. These songs made him one of the most respected Highlife artists in Ghana. In 2004, he was honored with the Best Male Vocal Artist award at the Ghana Music Awards UK, a moment that marked a high point in his career.
Many Ghanaians, including celebrities, have started paying tribute to him on social media. Gospel musician Empress Gifty simply posted his name—“Dada KD”—to show her sadness and respect. Actress Afia Schwarzenegger also shared a touching message on her Instagram page in memory of the singer.
Dada KD’s death is a big loss to the music industry in Ghana. He played an important role in promoting Highlife music and influenced many young musicians. Even though he is gone, his songs will continue to live on and inspire generations to come.
