The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has reacted after armed security men reportedly stormed his house.
He sent a message to President Mahama, urging him to stop intimidating him. He said that President John Dramani Mahama is overdoing things and it doesn’t seem good for the country. He said that these intimidation is clearly an abuse of power.
He reacted during a phone call he made to Wontumi TV’s morning show on Friday, May 23, 2025. While speaking on the show, Chairman Wontumi’s voice could be heard shaking, and at a point, he broke down and cried.
He told the presenters that his house had been surrounded by armed officers and begged Ghanaians, especially members of the NPP, to come to his aid. According to him, he has done nothing wrong and does not understand why he is being targeted.
“What have I done wrong? I have never been given a government position before. Why are they doing this to me?” he asked in tears. “I can’t even pay my children’s school fees because they have closed down all my businesses and frozen my bank accounts.”
Wontumi’s voice showed clear signs of distress, and he repeated that he is suffering because of his loyalty to the party. He pleaded with President John Dramani Mahama and the authorities to show him mercy.
His comments come just hours after the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Koduah, revealed that heavily armed security men had stormed Wontumi’s home. Some believe the incident may be related to his mining company, Akonta Mining, which is facing legal issues.
