According to MyNewsGH report, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has broken his silence following a dramatic and unexpected raid by over 20 operatives from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) at his residence.
Chairman Wontumi described the raid as unjustified and unlawful, revealing that the agents arrived without prior notice and proceeded to ransack his home without presenting a warrant. “I called the number on the police invitation letter to confirm if they were responsible for the NIB officials ransacking my house,” he said. “Isaac Offei, the person I spoke to, said the police knew nothing about it. So what exactly is going on? What crime have I committed?”
The NPP regional chairman explained that he had previously received a formal invitation from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Lydia Donkor, which he was set to honor the following Monday. The sudden intrusion by the NIB officers, therefore, came as a shock.
Wontumi linked the raid directly to his ambition to become the national chairman of the NPP. “It’s because of my quest to be the next national chairman that they want to make my life miserable. I was never a government appointee, never a board member or minister. So, what is this all about?” he questioned.
Despite what he described as intimidation and harassment, Wontumi expressed resilience, drawing motivation from Ghana’s and the world’s iconic political leaders who endured hardship. “Nelson Mandela was imprisoned but came out to become President. Kwame Nkrumah was also imprisoned and was voted President. Despite all the torment, I remain confident I will become National Chairman,” he affirmed.
