A fake letter claiming that North Tongu MP, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has resigned from his role as Minister for Foreign Affairs is currently circulating on social media. However, trusted sources have confirmed that the letter is not real, even though the issue it mentions is true.
According to information gathered, the letter was created by individuals believed to be aligned with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Their aim was to cause confusion and pressure Ablakwa into resigning from his position in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
The letter, dated 25th May 2025 and addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, falsely claimed that Ablakwa had resigned over the Vice President’s use of a luxurious private jet. It also referred to Ablakwa’s past criticism of expensive foreign travels using private aircraft.
In the fake letter, the writer expressed disappointment that Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang allegedly used a VistaJet private jet that cost about $20,000 per hour. The letter argued that this action went against the NDC’s values and principles, especially when Ghana already has a good presidential jet and other cheaper travel options.
However, credible officials close to Hon. Ablakwa have dismissed the letter as false and politically motivated. They explained that although the concerns about the private jet use are real and being discussed, Ablakwa has not resigned and remains committed to his duties.
Some political watchers believe this is part of a larger strategy by opponents to weaken strong voices in the current government. Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa is known for speaking out against wasteful spending and has remained vocal even while serving in government.
The public is advised to be cautious and verify political news from trusted sources before sharing or reacting.
