Ibrahim Mahama, born on January 29, 1971, in Piase in Ghana’s Northern Region, is a successful Ghanaian entrepreneur and the founder of Engineers & Planners. He is the younger brother of former President John Dramani Mahama.
His father, Emmanuel Adama Mahama, was the first Minister of State for the Northern Region under President Kwame Nkrumah. His mother, Joyce Tamakloe, was a businesswoman from Keta in the Volta Region.
Ibrahim Mahama attended Tamale Senior High School for his secondary education. He later traveled to the United Kingdom, where he studied at the College of North London. However, during his third year, he decided to leave college, feeling a stronger calling toward entrepreneurship. While in London, he worked with a property development company, gaining practical experience in business and learning about enterprise management and wealth creation.
In 1997, at the age of 26, Mahama returned to Ghana to start his own business. He founded Engineers & Planners, a company that provides heavy-duty equipment and mining services. Starting with just one machine purchased from Scotland, he built the company into one of West Africa’s leading indigenous-owned mining firms. Today, it employs over 3,000 workers and plays a major role in Ghana’s mining sector.
