You’ve heard a lot about Ghana’s Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. She’s a trailblazer—the first woman to hold that seat, a symbol of progress and possibility.
But have you ever heard about the man beside her?. His name is Edmund Opoku-Agyemang, and though he keeps a low public profile, his story is quietly remarkable.
Before becoming Ghana’s Second Gentleman, Edmund was already shaping the nation—one legal mind at a time.
He studied law at the University of Ghana, then went on to earn a Master of Laws (LLM) at the prestigious Yale University. For over 30 years, he’s been teaching at the University of Ghana’s Faculty of Law, guiding countless students into the world of justice and jurisprudence.
But that’s not all. He’s also served the country in powerful behind-the-scenes roles—coordinating the Ghana School Feeding Program between 2009 and 2013, where he helped boost child nutrition and school attendance.
He’s sat on the Ghana Judicial Council and the University of Ghana Council, influencing decisions that touch everyday lives.
Still, despite his achievements, Edmund is first and foremost a family man. With his wife Jane, he’s raised three brilliant children—Kweku, Kwabena, and Maame Adwoa—each excelling in their own academic pursuits.
And perhaps what’s most inspiring is this: he’s never outshined his wife. Instead, he’s stood with her, quietly supporting her rise to the top of Ghana’s political stage.
In a world where ego often grabs headlines, Edmund Opoku-Agyemang reminds us that real strength often speaks in whispers.
He may not be in the spotlight—but without him, the light around Ghana’s Vice President might not shine quite as bright.
