Kobina Tahir Hammond, popularly known as KT Hammond, has been seen in public for the first time since losing his parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections. The long-serving New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa was spotted at the Supreme Court in Accra on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
KT Hammond was seen in the company of respected legal expert Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, just before an important court hearing involving the suspended Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo. Many people were surprised to see the former Trade Minister and Member of Parliament, especially after his shocking defeat in the elections, which ended his over two-decade-long political journey in Parliament.
In the 2024 elections, KT Hammond lost the Adansi Asokwa seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Godwin Animli Dzogbazi-Dorani, who polled 14,229 votes compared to Hammond’s 13,275 votes. His loss came as a surprise to many, as Adansi Asokwa had always been considered a stronghold of the NPP. Some believe the defeat was due to complaints from residents about poor infrastructure and lack of basic social amenities.
At the Supreme Court, the focus was on the ongoing legal battles following the suspension of Chief Justice Torkornoo by President John Mahama. The Chief Justice is under investigation for alleged misconduct, including claims of tampering with court documents and misuse of state funds. Her suspension has sparked debates about judicial independence and political interference.
Dr. Justice Srem-Sai is one of the lawyers who have been active in the legal processes surrounding the suspension. His appearance with KT Hammond at the court has raised questions about whether the former MP is getting involved in the legal battle or simply offering support.
The case before the court was an injunction application filed by Chief Justice Torkornoo to stop the committee set up to investigate her. However, the Supreme Court has already dismissed the injunction in a narrow 3-2 decision, allowing the investigation to continue.
As the legal case continues, many Ghanaians are closely watching how it will affect the image of the judiciary and the political atmosphere in the country. Meanwhile, the sudden public appearance of KT Hammond has sparked interest, with some wondering what his next move will be in Ghanaian politics.
