According to a report by Citi FM on Wednesday, 28th May, 2025, th Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has received some relief from the Supreme Court in her ongoing legal battle. The court has rejected a request from the Attorney General to remove certain judges from a case she filed.
The case involves a committee, led by Justice Scott Pwamang, which is investigating Chief Justice Torkornoo. She went to the Supreme Court to stop this committee from continuing its work. She believes that the committee’s decision to investigate her is not supported by the Constitution.
In her legal documents, Justice Torkornoo asked the court for three main things:
1. That she be allowed to give up her right to a private hearing.
2. That the decision by the committee to investigate her be declared unconstitutional.
3. That the committee members be stopped from continuing with the case.
The Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, told the court that the committee members were not directly named in the suit and should be removed from the case.
However, former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame strongly disagreed. He argued that the most important issue was whether the committee members were affected by the lawsuit. He said they clearly were and should remain part of the case.
The five-member Supreme Court panel, led by Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, ruled in Dame’s favour. The judges said the committee members should stay in the case.
This decision is seen as good news for Justice Torkornoo, as it allows her case to move forward with the committee members included. It strengthens her challenge and gives her hope that the court will consider her full arguments.
As the legal process continues, all eyes will be on the Supreme Court to see what happens next in this high-profile case.
