In a post sighted by Metro TV, Suspended Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Torkornoo, has spoken loudly and clearly about how unhappy she is with the impeachment process going on against her.
She says the whole process is not fair and is only trying to remove her from office without any proper reason.
In a paper she gave to the Supreme Court, called a supplementary affidavit, Madam Torkornoo said the impeachment is a “mockery of justice.” She explained that the way the process is being done is strange and worrying.
One big thing she complained about is where the hearings are taking place. Normally, cases like this are held at the regular Court Complex, but hers is being done at a special high-security building. She feels this is not normal and makes things look unfair and secretive.
She also doesn’t like how the people accusing her, called petitioners, are being treated better. She said they are allowed to bring witnesses to speak for them, even if they themselves don’t talk. This, she believes, is not the right way the law should work.
Another thing that bothered Madam Torkornoo is that during the hearings, she and her lawyers were not allowed to use phones or laptops. But the lawyers for the people accusing her could use theirs freely. She says this is very unfair and shows that the process is biased.
Because of all these problems, she is asking the Supreme Court to stop the impeachment. She believes if it goes on like this, it will harm the freedom of judges and affect how safe their jobs are in Ghana.
The Supreme Court has not given its final decision yet. Many people in Ghana are watching closely, as this could change how judges are treated in the country.
