The Paramount Chief of Dormaa, known as the Dormaahene, has expressed his disapproval of how some Members of Parliament (MPs) conducted themselves during a recent protest at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Specifically, he criticized the act of MPs sitting on the bare ground, calling it inappropriate for national leaders.
The protest occurred on May 29 following the arrest of Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who serves as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In response, some Minority MPs gathered at EOCO, demanding his release and sitting on the ground in front of the premises to make their point, drawing public attention.
According to the Dormaahene, leaders are symbols of the people’s dignity and must always act in ways that reflect that honor—even when protesting. He insisted that while there is nothing wrong with standing up for a cause, it should be done in an organized and respectful way. Sitting on the bare ground, he argued, does not convey the right message coming from individuals who occupy high-ranking positions.
He further stated that had he been informed in advance, he would have ensured that proper arrangements, including chairs, were made for the MPs to express their concerns more appropriately.
