Two big names in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong and Matthew Opoku Prempeh, were seen together at the funeral of the late former Central Regional Chairman of the NPP, Chairman Kutin on Saturday, 31st May, 2025.
The event brought together many party leaders and supporters who came to pay their last respects to the man who had served the party faithfully.
Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, was the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 general elections. Kennedy Agyapong, on the other hand, was one of the top contenders in the NPP presidential primaries, which saw him compete against Bawumia for the party’s flagbearer position. Even though they were once political rivals, the two appeared united at the funeral.
In a Facebook post shared by Matthew Opoku Prempeh, he posted a photo of himself and Kennedy Agyapong shaking hands warmly at the funeral. This has caught the attention of many Ghanaians, especially those who follow NPP politics closely.
In his post, Opoku Prempeh wrote:
“I joined party stalwarts of the New Patriotic Party to pay our last respects to the late Central Regional Chairman of our Party, affectionately known as Chairman Kutin. Chairman Kutin’s dedication and commitment to the liberal democratic ideals of our party was a matter of public record and he served the NPP with such iconic distinction. I have personally lost a friend and a brother but we find solace in the fact that, the almighty knows best. May the soul of Chairman Kutin rest in peace until we meet again.”
The presence of these two powerful NPP figures together shows that despite political differences, unity in the party remains important.
