As part of the ongoing 2025 school selection process, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the list of Category ‘A’ Senior High Schools across the country. These schools are considered the best in their regions based on their academic records, discipline, facilities, and general performance.
In the Ashanti Region, seven (7) schools have been ranked as Category ‘A’. These schools have shown outstanding performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), produced top students, and contributed greatly to quality education in Ghana.
Below is the list of the 9 Category ‘A’ Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region:
1. St. Louis Senior High School, Kumasi
2. Kumasi High School
3. Opoku Ware School
4. Prempeh College
5. T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, Kumasi
6. Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School
7. Kumasi Technical Institute
These schools include top all-boys and all-girls schools as well as technical institutions that provide students with both academic and practical skills. Some of them, like Opoku Ware, Prempeh College, and Yaa Asantewaa Girls, are well-known across Ghana for winning national academic competitions such as the National Science and Maths Quiz.
The GES has reminded students and parents to choose schools based on the student’s strengths, academic performance, and future goals. While many aim to enter Category ‘A’ schools, the Service emphasized that Category ‘B’ and ‘C’ schools also provide quality education and should not be overlooked.
The school selection process is being carried out under the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), which ensures fairness and equal opportunity for all qualified students. GES says they will continue to promote excellence in all senior high schools across the country.
