Kevin Taylor, the host of the With All Due Respect show on Loud Silence TV, has shared some information about what really happened to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, while he was in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
On his show on Monday, June 2, 2025, Kevin Taylor told his viewers that Chairman Wontumi was not harmed or beaten by EOCO officers. He explained that Wontumi was only questioned as part of their investigations and that the officers did not abuse him in any way. “EOCO only interrogated him, they did not assault him,” Kevin Taylor stated clearly.
This revelation comes shortly after Chairman Wontumi was released from EOCO custody. He had been in detention since Tuesday, May 27, over serious allegations including fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. There were also claims that he may be linked to a larger international crime group.
Wontumi’s release was confirmed on the evening of June 2 by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua. He also thanked Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a top member of the party, for helping Wontumi meet his bail conditions. Wontumi was granted bail worth GH₵50 million, with two sureties that had to be justified.
Although his legal team completed the bail requirements on Friday, May 30, his release was delayed because of a legal challenge. An application had been filed to review the bail conditions, but it was withdrawn on Monday, clearing the way for his release.
Throughout his time in custody, many NPP supporters, including Members of Parliament and party leaders, protested and called for his release. They believed the bail conditions were too harsh and politically motivated.
Now that Chairman Wontumi is out, he is expected to continue cooperating with EOCO and other investigative bodies as they work on the case.
