A petrol truck burst in Nigeria’s south-west Ondo state, killing at least eight persons.
Residents had been scooping up spilt fuel from a tanker involved in a road collision on Sunday night, according to state police.
“The tanker exploded on its own, killing eight people and injuring many more who are being treated in hospitals,” a police spokeswoman told the BBC.
Nigerians have recently struggled to pay for fuel after prices skyrocketed following the elimination of a petrol subsidy.
