The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has sent a strong message to the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Mr. Randy Abbey. According to the Okyenhene, it is time for Ghana to make cocoa farmers millionaires.
Okyenhene said that Ghana must change the way it treats its cocoa farmers. He explained that cocoa is one of the main sources of income for the country, and the people who grow it must enjoy the benefits.
He said that the leaders shouldn’t be afraid to make Ghanaians rich. He added that If someone works hard to grow cocoa, they deserve to live a good life. He urged Randy Abbey to create millionaire cocoa farmers. That is how we can develop this country.
The Okyenhene said that for too long, cocoa farmers have been poor even though they play a very important role in Ghana’s economy. He called on the new COCOBOD CEO to introduce policies that will improve the lives of cocoa farmers.
He added that making cocoa farming attractive to young people will also help the country.
Many people have praised the Okyenhene for speaking up for cocoa farmers. His message has brought hope to many farmers who are looking forward to better days under the leadership of Randy Abbey.
Following the appointment of Randy Abbey, he has put in place several measures to make sure that Ghana Cocoa exports get to its peak again. He has secured lands for the planting of more seeds. He has also promised to increase the selling price of Cocoa in few months time.
