Nana Yaa Jantuah, the former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has publicly apologized to outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo following widespread backlash over recent remarks she made.
Known for her candid commentary, Jantuah came under heavy criticism on social media after making statements perceived as offensive, prompting her to offer a sincere apology during a live broadcast.
The controversy arose from Jantuah’s criticism of economic inequality and what she described as questionable wealth accumulation under Akufo-Addo’s leadership. She cited examples of individuals allegedly amassing wealth in unusually short periods, fueling public suspicion. The tone and language of her commentary, however, triggered accusations of religious blasphemy and personal attacks.
Her apology comes at a critical moment in Ghana’s political landscape, as the country transitions from President Akufo-Addo’s administration, which concluded on January 7, 2025, to the new government led by President John Dramani Mahama. While some had previously praised Jantuah for her forthrightness—such as calling Akufo-Addo’s presidency a “mistake” for Ghana—others found her remarks divisive.
