The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man believed to be involved in illegal drug activities. The suspect, Bukari Yakubu, was arrested at his home in Akatsi in the Volta Region during a special police operation.
The arrest took place in the early hours of Saturday, May 10, 2025, at around 1:00am. Police said the operation was based on intelligence they had received about Bukari’s illegal activities. Officers had been monitoring his movements for some time before making the arrest.
During a search of his residence, the police found ninety-two (92) slabs of a substance they believe to be Indian hemp. The slabs were wrapped in a yellowish material. Along with the suspected drugs, the police also found two Royal motorbikes, which are believed to be stolen.
When the police questioned him, Bukari Yakubu admitted that the items belonged to him. Further investigations revealed that he has been selling illegal drugs in Akatsi and nearby communities.
The police say that Bukari is now in custody and is helping with investigations. He is expected to be taken to court soon to face charges related to drug possession and possibly theft.
The Ghana Police Service has reminded the public of its commitment to fighting crime, especially drug-related offenses. They also encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities in their communities to help keep everyone safe.
This arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the police to reduce the sale and use of illegal drugs in Ghana. Authorities believe that arresting and prosecuting drug dealers like Bukari Yakubu will help protect the youth and maintain law and order in the country.
