Kwesi Pratt Jnr, the Editor-in-Chief of the Insight Newspaper, has added his voice to the ongoing issue involving Sammy Gyamfi’s cash gift to Evangelist Mama Pat, popularly known as Agradaa.
Speaking on the Good Morning Ghana show on Metro TV on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Mr. Pratt criticized Sammy Gyamfi for what he described as a “childish defence” of his actions. According to him, Sammy’s explanation that he gives to people daily and that Agradaa was in need does not make sense.
“Stop the childish defences,” Mr. Pratt said.
Mr. Pratt said the issue has created division in both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He explained that some members of the NDC support Sammy’s actions while others believe he went too far. The same division, he said, can be seen in how NPP members are reacting to the situation.
“This matter has clearly divided the NDC and even the NPP. Some people are supporting Sammy Gyamfi no matter what, and others are very angry,” he added.
The controversy began when a video surfaced showing Sammy Gyamfi giving a cash donation to Agradaa. Many Ghanaians, including members of his own party, questioned why he would donate to someone with a controversial background like Agradaa.
While some believe Sammy Gyamfi was simply trying to help, others think it was unnecessary and politically unwise.
Kwesi Pratt’s comments add to the many reactions that have come from politicians, religious leaders, and the general public. As of now, the NDC leadership has not released an official decision on the matter.
