According to a report by Opemsuo Radio on Thursday, 22nd May, 2025, the High Court in Kumasi has ordered that a contempt application filed against the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, be served through public notices. The case was brought by Nana Samgba Gyafla II, also known as Justice Emmanuel Ankamah, the Paramount Chief of the Sampa Traditional Area.
This order, issued by Justice Abdul Razak Musah on March 26, 2025, allows for what is known as “substituted service.” This means the legal documents will not be delivered personally but will instead be made public through official notice boards and a newspaper publication.
The contempt application, filed under suit number GJMISC/51/2025, is against Dormaahene, who is also the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, and Madam Ama Konadu Kusi, Registrar of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.
The court directed that copies of the contempt application be posted in the following places:
1. The notice board of the High Court in Kumasi
2. The notice board of the High Court in Sunyani
3. The walls of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani
4. Delivered to the Registrar or any staff of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs
5. Published once in the Daily Graphic newspaper
According to the court, the parties will be considered properly served 14 days after these steps are completed. The case has been adjourned and will resume on June 16, 2025, at 10:00 am.
This legal action is part of a wider dispute involving the Sampa Traditional Council and the Bono Regional House of Chiefs. Nana Samgba Gyafla II has also filed for judicial review, challenging actions taken by the regional and national houses of chiefs regarding his chieftaincy position.
The ruling ensures that the case can proceed even if the respondents are not available to be served directly. The matter has sparked public interest in the Bono Region, especially among traditional leaders and their followers.
