The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia E. Palmer, has officially ended her three-year duty tour in the country. As part of her farewell activities, she visited former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at his residence in Nima on Monday, May 26, 2025.
Ambassador Palmer served as the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana from 2022 to 2025. During this period, she worked hard to strengthen the partnership between Ghana and the United States. Her efforts have been widely recognized by many leaders and citizens across the country.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, 28th May, 2025, former President Akufo-Addo expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Palmer’s contribution to Ghana-US relations. He said she played an important role in keeping the two countries united through cooperation, mutual respect, and development support.
“At the end of a successful three-year tour of duty to Ghana as Ambassador of the United States of America, H.E. Virginia E. Palmer, on Monday, 26th May, 2025, paid a farewell call on me at my residence, in Nima,” Akufo-Addo wrote.

He added, “H.E. Virginia E. Palmer, throughout her duty tour, has been an effective force of cohesion for Ghana-US relations and she will be sorely missed. I wish her well in all her future endeavours.”
Ambassador Palmer is expected to return to the United States soon to continue her diplomatic service. Her time in Ghana is being remembered for strong cooperation in areas such as education, health, trade, and security.
Many Ghanaians have also taken to social media to wish her well and thank her for the impact she made during her time in the country.
