Lasmid’s performance at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) received backlash, with his former label boss, Kaywa, stating that the stagecraft would have been better if they were still working together.
Kaywa recently disclosed that Lasmid’s lawyer in Nigeria helped him leave the label.
In an interview with Kaywa for Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Kaywa claimed that the performance at the awards event would have been different if Lasmid had still been with Highly Spiritual Music.
He said that if they had been in charge of him, he wouldn’t have given the lackluster performance at the VGMA.
Although Kaywa was disappointed with Lasmid’s performance, he made it clear that he didn’t intend any harm to the performer.
If he chose to return to the label, he made it plain that it would be impossible to collaborate with Lasmid once more. Kaywa said, “There is no way we can work with him [again] because he decided to go.”
As part of his award for winning MTN Hitmaker Season 8 in 2019, Kaywa worked with Lasmid for a year before recently disclosing that he didn’t have a contract with him. The musician, through his Nigerian attorney, made conditions that Kaywa couldn’t meet when he wanted to formally sign Lasmid, which caused their breakup.
Kaywa explained that he had invested a significant amount of time and effort into developing Lasmid’s career, and things were going well after the success of Lasmid’s hits “Friday Night” and “Running.” However, it was after the release of “Running” that Lasmid decided to part ways with the label. Kaywa mentioned that their initial conversation and agreement suddenly changed, possibly due to Lasmid being influenced by other people in their circle.
Currently, Kaywa has signed four new artists to Highly Spiritual Music. They are Cadeen, Joe Vibe, Shuga Lord, and Joe Verse.
