Godfred Dame, the Attorney General, has taken procedures to prosecute the Adisadel College student seen in a viral video choking and abusing his colleague.
According to sources, the Attorney General asked his regional director on Tuesday to liaise with the Ghana Police Service and initiate inquiries into the incident.
Following the preliminary investigations, the AG, who is said to be profoundly troubled by the incident, expects charges to be filed in court against the culprit by Friday.
The frightening video depicts a senior student trapping the neck of another student within his elbow lock and striking his head against a metallic item, causing acute swelling and a gash on the victim’s right cheek.
The violent video has aroused outrage and raised concerns about the safety of children in the country’s educational institutions.
Since the video became viral, the culprit and victim have both been suspended for failing to report the crime. The housemaster has also been fired.
Officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES), in reaction to the incident, have noted that they were deeply concerned and strongly condemn the barbaric act by the culprit and are taking immediate action.
“We applaud the school authorities for taking swift action to suspend the culprit pending further investigation,” parts of a release by the GES read.
